Il volume, che accompagna la nuova edizione del festival “Fotografia Europea”, giunto al suo dodicesimo anno, si propone di stimolare riflessioni su memoria, archivi e futuro e di articolarle sulla concretezza delle questioni d’attualità: strade dimenticate, situazioni minacciate, tentativi di alternative. Attraverso le opere di grandi maestri del recente passato e dei nuovi protagonisti della scena internazionale, viene dunque ampliato il concetto stesso di archivio, non come luogo chiuso e della conservazione, bensì luogo diffuso, da cui attingere le storie e le immagini che possono aiutare a comprendere il presente e a immaginare il futuro. This volume accompanies the new edition of the “European Photography” festival. It aims at arousing reflections on the subject of memory, archives and future while confronting them with the reality of contemporary problems: forgotten roads, threatened situations, attempts at alternatives. Through the works of great masters from the recent past and those of new protagonists on the international scene, the concept of archive itself is therefore expanded – not as a confined space dedicated to conservation, but as a broader place from which one can draw stories and images that might help in understanding the present and imagining the future.
