Jenny Saville was based in Glasgow for just six years, but the paintings she made there in the early 1990s led to her early acclaim and marked the beginning of her internationally renowned career. Over some twenty-five years Saville has manipulated, layered, excavated and sculpted her chosen medium with exceptional skill to produce a body of work that celebrates the act of painting and explores the possibliities of difference, hybridity and ambiguity. Her paintings and drawings speak of the common vulnerability and emotions of people, the struggle and joy in finding human connection, and the physical, often visceral, experience of being human.
