Two volumes documenting the influence of the works attributed to Hermes Trismegistus in Venice and the rest of Europe on the occasion of the exhibition in the Biblioteca Marciana, Venice, 31-5 to 15-9 2002. The catalogue is a sequel to the exhibition catalogue Marsilio Ficino e il ritorno di Ermete Trismegisto, also published by Centro Di, Florence, in October 1999 (second revised edition 2001).
The first volume contains a number of contributions on manuscripts and printed works in Bessarion´s library and in other Venetian libraries, on Hermetism in Venice from Francesco Giorgio to Agostino Steuco, on editions of the Corpus Hermeticum brought out in Venice, Greek and Latin manuscripts of Bessarion relating to Hermes Trismegistus; Western and Oriental texts of Hermes in the Biblioteca Marciana; Hermetism and Paracelsianism; Hermes amongst the Rosicrucians and theosophers; the debate on the authenticity of the Hermetic works; popular magical practices in Venice; Venice and the Italian origin of the movement of the ´Gold-und Rosenkreuzer´ of the later 17th and 18th century. The second volume contains descriptions of the manuscripts and printed works from the holdings of the BPH and the Marciana, indices and a bibliography. The two volumes of the catalogue are richly illustrated in colour and b/w.
