A pioneering painter and print-maker, Nikolai Astrup(1880-1928) spent his life capturing the landscapes of his home in WesternNorway, imbuing his work with mysticism and an enigmatic symbolic content. Thefirst UK exhibition of his work will run at the Dulwich Picture Gallery fromFebruary to May 2016. Over 90 oil paintings and prints will explore the breadthand depth of Astrup´s unique artistic practice, shining a spotlight on of oneof Norway´s most renowned artists of the twentieth century.
Frances Carey is an independent curator and consultant whowas formerly Deputy Keeper of Prints and Drawings and Head of NationalProgrammes at the British Museum. She has published on the history of art andculture from the eighteenth century to the present day. Ian A.C. Dejardin isthe Sackler Director of Dulwich Picture Gallery, London. He graduated with aMaster (Hons) in History of Art from Edinburgh University; appointed Curator atDulwich in 1997, he became the gallery´s Director in 2005 and since then haspresided over a varied and international exhibition program. MaryAnne Stevensis an independent art historian and curator who has previously worked at theRoyal Academy of Arts, London, as Director of Academic Affairs, before servingas Acting Secretary for three years. She has been published extensively, andcurated or co-curated many major international exhibitions, including Manet:Portraying Life and Jean-Etienne Liotard.
