Lee Friedlander (born 1934), the photographer and biographer of Americana, it´s monuments, jazz musicians and urban landscapes, presents 16 years of Americans at work.
In the Industrial North at the end of the 1970s, people were at work using hands and machinery. In mid 80s Wisconsin supercomputers were built, while employees typed on desktop computers in Boston. In the early 90s New York stockbrokers traded bonds and Omaha citizens sat on computers, cold calling as telemarketers. In Cleveland in 1995 human skills were used to craft products we use in our everyday life.
This collection consists of commissioned portfolios, some made at the request of art institutions, others at the behest of company CEOs. It shows in beautifully printed, large-sized duotone illustrations people working, be it in offices, factories or antiseptic laboratories.
