Meisner in Practice

Sanford Meisner taught acting from the early 1930s until the 1990s, first at the Group Theatre in New York and subsequently at the Actors Studio and the Neighbourhood Playhouse. Derived from Stanislavsky, the Meisner Technique places emphasis on truthful interaction between actors rather than on dredging their own past to find a connection with their character. The aim is for the actor “to live truthfully under imaginary circumstances” – to remain truly “in the moment”.
