Tibetan Paintings

This book provides a lucid and concise analysis to the styles and aesthetics of Tibetan thankas. Most books on Tibetan art are devoted largely to iconography, but in this volume the author has written a history of the various style of thankas that prevailed in Tibet between the 11th and 19th centuries. The author has placed particular emphasis on the earlier styles which flourished between the 11th and the 15th centuries. The book is profusely illustrated with 115 color plates and several black and white illustrations, and the majority of the thankas have not been published heretofore. The publication will remain an important contribution to the history of thankas.
