Utmost fidelity: the Painting Lives of Marianne and Adrian Stokes

When the Austrian-born painting student Marianne Preindlsberger (1855-1927) encountered Adrian Stokes (1854-1935) in the summer of 1883 in Brittany, their shared aim was to study plein air realism at first hand. This is a study of this husband-and-wife painting team prominent in the Cornish art scene from the late 1800s to the early 20th century.
