Since 1968, Penone´s writings have accompanied his work. Sometimes they anticipate it, in other cases they follow the works with the unpredictable delay of reflection compared to action. They are notations that enter the drawings or photographs. These gestures of writing are propositions that contribute to steer towards sculpture, delineating journeys and trail signs. Penone looks to produce ´that ancient art that sinks its roots in the amazement, the surprise, the enchantment of light and shadows.´ This rich and abundant exhibition catalogue (Ikon Gallery, June - July 2009) combines Penone´s writings with installation photos, and his sculptural interactions with trees, stones and water.
