Redeeming Nietzsche. On the piety of unbelief

This work addresses Nietzsche´s relationship to a secular theology that asks not whether God exists, but how man might be saved. Examining the processes of the Dionysian mentality that asserts suffering as a means to personal growth and overcoming, it questions how the philosopher´s defiant experiments in redemption can stand when confronted with large-scale and impersonal forms of violence. Giles Fraser´s study radically suggests that Nietzsche´s affirmation of life functions only at the ultimate cost of self-absorption and denial, drawing this leading thinker´s perennially engrossing theories into a new and significant contemporary arena.
