Aniki Bobo, III Fated Love, Le Soulier de Satin, Mon Cas, The Cannibals, Le Val Abraham, The Convent, Manoel de Oliveira´s work is exemplary in the way it proposes a digest of film history. From silent films to the extreme avant-garde, from one aesthetic style to another, his work maps out the main evolution of cinematographical forms. The connection between the moving image and the theatre has rarely been investigated and used with such force and beauty.
