Un diluvio di giornali

The underlying thread of this publication is the contrast between satirical Italian, German and French texts, so as to create, for the first time, a valid means of comparison between methods, characters and styles in satiric design in Europe between the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. The process uncovered recurring themes dealing with the iconographic fortunes of certain protagonists in history (from Napoleon III to Mussolini) and phenomena regarding history, culture and traditions felt by a large majority of the population: the mechanisation of society, colonialism, technological innovation, the horrors of modern art, the spread of prostitution
